Adena Berkowitz
Rabbanit Dr. Adena Berkowitz is the Scholar-in-Residence and co-founder of Kol HaNeshamah NYC, an organization dedicated to revitalizing the spiritual lives of both affiliated and not-yet-affiliated Jews. With expertise in law, Jewish studies, and psychotherapy, she is the author of the bestselling The Jewish Journey Haggadah, now in its second printing, and co-editor of Shaarei Simcha: Gates of Joy, a mini prayerbook and the first liturgical work of the modern era written by Orthodox women.
Her scholarship includes the widely cited article "My Body, My Choice: Biblical, Rabbinic, and Contemporary Halakhic Responses to Abortion," published in Touro Law Review, and "Brain Death and Organ Donation in Jewish Law," featured in The Oxford Handbook on Jewish Law by Oxford University Press.
A founding member of the Hadassah National Attorneys Council, Rabbanit Berkowitz has been active in interfaith dialogue, including being part of one of the first Jewish groups to meet with Pope Francis. She is also a practicing therapist. Rabbanit Berkowitz lives in New York with her husband, Rabbi Zev Brenner, and their family.
